No one quite like her - Bollywood moms who rock Indian ethnic wear

Mother's day has just gone by but that is no reason for us to stop celebrating our moms.

Truly every mother should have celebrity status in the family. Isn't that what also usually happens when she steps out for a few hours or goes away on an official tour or makes a visit to her sibling's place for the weekend ? All hell breaks loose and life is reduced to chaos.

When she is finally back every one is joyful and excited - the toddler cries out in delight and the dog barks cheerily ,milling about her feet in excitement, the older children wrap themselves over mom in a comforting hug, and daddy secretly breathes a sigh of relief as order is once more restored to the cosmos. Just the kind of reception a celebrity receives from its bevy of fans waiting for just a glimpse and maybe a lucky selfie.

And what happens if you are a celebrity and a mom ? Now that is a combination few can hope to resist.

That is also just what you need to see to make sure you are not missing out your mom's or your own self care. Here we talk about some of the most stylish and amazing moms from Bollywood to inspire you to refresh your style and slay with a smile.

Sushmita Sen:

A true diva of her generation, she chose motherhood at the age when most of us are still completing our university degrees. She has a versatile style, carrying western gowns, boho, traditional and corporate casuals with ease, which is in keeping with the multiple roles she juggles as an actor, ramp model, brand ambassador, entrepreneur and a devoted mom of two bright young girls.

She has been into aerial silk and her toned physique defies her 47 years. Even though she has been on a long break from Bollwood, she is still the most eligible single woman rocking pant suits as well as traditional saaris and lehengas.

Aishwarya Rai:

The most beautiful woman in the world has been a mother to Aradhya for 7 years.

Unapologetic about her pregnancy weight gain, she has made many appearances at Cannes inspiring soon to be moms to accept post pregnancy physical changes with grace and style.

She has been back on the silver screen and has not stopped experimenting both with her roles as well as her on screen looks. She was the bewitching poetess in 'Ae dil hai mushkil' in glamorous furs, dipping necklines and a scarlet lip which was definitely a departure from her previous demure looks. In her last outing in 'Fanney Khan' we saw her dying her hair red for the first time and carrying a bling laden pop star personae with ease in trendy jewel encrusted frocks, jackets and sneakers. Off screen she made a splash at Isha Ambani's wedding in a fiery red saari and gold jewellery once more reminding us there is no outfit as elegant and dressy as a saari can be.

Kareena Kapoor:

She is the only one of her generation of female actors who is still giving a real run for their money to many Bollywood starlets.

She rocks both Indian and traditional outfits and her pregnancy street style can double up as a go to look book for soon to be moms. From her early miniskirt outings and size zero bikini appearances to the easy summer dresses and flips flops during pregnancy she has embraced  all phases of her body with élan like no other celeb. After surprising us by being back in better shape than ever, within months of giving birth to Taimur she was back to sizzling the screen in 'Veere dee wedding' with dreamy Indian ethnic bridal outfits.

Shilpa Shetty:

It would seem this leggy lady has not aged at all. Thanks to her dedicated yoga practice she has maintained  her slender shape even after giving birth and although she can carry any kind of outfit really well,  no one can quite compare with her modern take on saaris. She has paired her saaris with pants, ruffled blouses, off shoulder tops, Nehru jackets, corset belts and you name it.

Her outfits for her TV appearances as a reality show judge are a study in how to spice up Indian ethnic wear. If you need a style icon to help you revive the saaris lounging in your closet for years just browse through her Instagram page for a quick style inspiration.

Malaika Arora:

She is the mom who did it first- whether it was staying in shape post motherhood, or continuing to work in glamour and fashion industry even with two teenage kids, or being the hot property as an ace dancer in Bollywood films, no one can do it quite like Malaika.

A self confessed frugal spender on apparel and accessories, she has always been well turned out even when buying inexpensive clothes owing to her keen style sense and good taste. She has worked her petite frame and proportionate curves to her advantage always appearing in sky high heels and well cut clothes. No wonder she is a darling of the fashion industry who love to dress her up in western and Indian wear for how she brings grace and elegance to everything she wears like this silver lehenga.

Karishma Kapoor:

In her initial years she was considered a disruptor with her blue eyes, voluminous mane and bushy eyebrows, but with her elegant outing as a mother in stylish salwar suits and silk saaries in 'Raja Hindustani' she left that initial impression behind.  She was the epitome of class and beauty in her vintage styling and throwback outfits styled after royal ensembles in 'Zubeida' which was also a high point of her acting career.

Now a mother to two teenagers she is still a favorite with the Indian fashion Industry and while her dresses and jeans outfits are on point, we cannot help but swoon at her traditional outfits at various occasions, like her ramp walk in  red & black silk saree.

So don't you agree it is a passé that mothers should go on fulfilling their roles quietly and without being celebrated as the true heroines of our lives ?

Well, let us take a page out of the life of these onscreen heroines and give it up for our mothers too !

Applause !!
