Best of the runway : The best Indian Ethnic trends from the 2020 Lakme Fashion Week

The Lakme Fashion week is a fashion event par excellence. It is highly awaited by both fashion industry insiders as well as the trend conscious fashion buyers and has never yet failed to impress.

And speaking of the Fashion Week one of the most highly awaited sections of the event is the Indian Ethnic wear that determines the trends for the year to come for both casual as well as festive or Bridal Indian Ethnic wear lovers.

This year was its highly coveted 20th edition and yes, we do know how curious you are to find out what were the predictions of the fashion pundits for the trends to follow.

So dig in your heels and get a look at the five hottest new trends in Indian Ethnic fashion from the Lakme Fashion Week 2020, all for your eyes only.

Indo-western silhouettes: Keeping in mind the flavor of the last few season, the Indo-Western silhouette found favor in dresses and more. Like this Ethnic dress worn by Aditi Rao Hydari, where the focus was on Indian style motifs and colors paired with a handkerchief hem.

The styling done with poker straight hair, minimal make-up and accesories, and sleek suede boots added to the boho theme, with the fusion vibe very much in place.

The clashing textures: The Indo Western fusion vibe was also channeled in lehengas. Just one look at Diana Penty's shimmery crop top paired with a heavily embellished velvet lehenga in clashing textures created more drama and interest than the usual lehenga outing. The unusual paring is a daring take on traditional Indian wear, and we are all praise, indeed.

Minimal jewelery, make-up and accessories continued to keep the theme singularly focused on the clothing.

Clashing prints: The clash of prints was another interesting juxtaposition that we saw on the Lakme Fashion week runway. In this beautiful black and gold saree showcased by Taboo it is not just black and gold competing with pink and white but also the chevron print against the flower motifs creating much interest.

The overall effect is striking and a bold take on Indian traditional motifs.

Neutral and bold: The colors this season were mostly neutral and in bold geometric prints. Like this outfit which checks all the boxes on the 2020 Indian Fashion predictions. The chevron print is offset by delicate floral embroidery on the top and the colors remain soft yet bold, pink and blue pastels offset by black and grey. This is just the kind of outfit that would be unmistakably noticeable even in a crowd.

The corset style lehenga top: While the lehenga has remained a staple on the runway, the usual lehenga blouse or choli has been missing in action and has been replaced by the crop top style off shoulder tops. This year the trend took a step even further and went into corset territory with a corset style tops complete with the wire detailing and off shoulder neckline like this one worn by Dia Mirza.
