Memorial Day Celebration: Remembering the Brave Souls

In the holy reminisces of sacrifice and valour, honor and pride, Memorial Day dates back to the early nineteenth century commemorating the loss of our soldiers and army men. During the Civil War in America, a staggering 67,200 men and women lost their lives in order to protect the nation’s pride. This federal holiday is scheduled on every last Monday of May. It also marks the beginning of summer vacations while Labor Day marks its end.

The people visit cemeteries and memorials, to mourn the loss and place an American flag by their graves. They pay respect and to the honourable country’s armed forces. According to the Union General John A. Logan, of the Grand Army of Republic (GAR), he expressed his vision for the day as, “Let us, then, at the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation’s gratitude, the soldier’s and sailor’s widow and orphan.”
